"One Fast Move or I'm Gone: Kerouac's Big Sur" - A Rocking Trippy Documentary

How do you make a movie about Jack Kerouac's writing appeal to a whole new generation?  Take some of the best rock and rollers from this generation and have them create a music track for the film. That's what has kept this two year old film from being released, but the wait is well worth it when you see the wild imagery and you hear it's fitting pairing with the great tracks created with the collaboration of Benjamin Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie and Jay Farrar from Son Volt.  As the 40th anniversary of Jack Kerouac's death fast approaches, this film may bring a whole new awareness to Kerouac's trippy writing.  The risk is that it may promote a whole lot of drug taking to make this film even stranger than it already is.  What makes this film even more appealing to me is that it was edited by my good friend Cob Carlson, a true music afficanado, and one fine editor.

NO Impact Man + woman. A no impact documentary.

Is it possible to live in the city of bright lights and late nights (NYC) while having no environmental impact on the planet?  This year-long experiment is what the new documentary No Impact Man is all about.  This is the story of the Beaven family's odyssey.  Michele Conlin was my classmate at Columbia Journalism School and a colleague at CNN Financial News.   Today she's a columnist for Business Week and a great mom.  Here's her take on the No Impact Project which her husband Colin cooked up - Michele C on going No Impact.

The movie is beautifully shot, and thoughtfully crafted by filmmaker Laura Gabbert.

The Must See Movie of this Fall: Amreeka

How do you relate the Palestinian Israeli strife an American audience?  You make it an 'American' story.  That's what writer/director Cherien Dabis has done in her first feature - Amreeka.  Dabis, who also wrote for The L Word, has hit the creative jackpot with her new 'outsider' feature that has been raking in prizes at Cannes and Sundance.  Dabis has brilliantly executed the delicate dance between dead serious issues and intimate comedic moments that are rarely done well.  This is a must see movie, so put it on your viewing list this fall.  To read a full review by Caryn James of the Daily Beast (Click here).

Dartmouth Business Model

Here's an interesting short fund raising video about the Dartmouth business model created by their advancement team for alumni.  It's animated because the subject doesn't really make for a great video with beauty shots of the campus, classrooms, etc.  Some fine computer animation helps keep the eyes entertained.

Surprising Short Film

Here's an arresting little short film called called, "What is That?"  It was created two years ago by a Greek Director.  Great music by Wilco, and a surprising little plot line that makes you think twice about how you look at things. We could use one of these every morning in our life to make us look at things a little differently. Hope you like it.
