Simple Commerical: Weight Watchers Lips

Here's a simple commercial for Weight Watchers, right?  Shoot a bunch of closeups with a model and you're done.  Check it out.

Well think again.   The longer piece below gives you a true understanding of how incredibly complicated this commercial was to make.  I shot a lot of so called "table top" up close work for commercial clients like Hardees (burgers) and Pizza Hut (I am not going to say it), and learned all about the fine art of hand models, food stylists, closeup makeup, etc.

Not so easy to make, is it?

One Tough Spider - Mentos

Great comedy commercial because it catches you off guard.  Guy goes to 'take care' of the spider. and the spider takes care of him.  Gotta love it.  Funny, simple and memorable.   Still don't get the tag line: it's better to know what's coming next.  Maybe I'm a little slow today.

Wes Anderson Takes a Walk on the Wild Side with Moonrise Kingdom

Wes Anderson who made his bones both acting and creating out of the ordinary features such as Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, the Royal Tennanbaums, and the animated Fantastic Mr. Fox (blogged about in this column two years ago - Fantastic Mr. Fox) has another highly stylized, avant garde project in the home stretch.  Due to hit theatres in May, Moonrise Kingdom draws on some creative and out there actors with an all star cast including Ed Norton, Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDonald, Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman.  The film, written by Roman Coppola and Anderson, is an out of the ordinary teen adventure flick, that's sure to collect some major buzz.

SNL - Sendup of NBA on TNT

Here's a funny SNL sketch from this past Saturday's show (1/7/12) hosted by Charles Barclay and Kelly Clarkson.  The sketch has a roundtable of 'basketball players' participating in a basketball roundup for Inside Basketball - The NBA on TNT.  Funny stuff.  What's odd is that even though Charles Barclay was available for the sketch, SNL producers opted for one of its players to play Sir Charles in the piece.  My thinking is that perhaps it was because Sir Charles may not be able to retain the lines and timing of his role?

Super Bowl 2012 - It's Ad Time Again

OK, it's time for the annual Super Bowl Dorito's Crash the Super Bowl Party.  Let's hope this year's year's pack of ads is not indicative of the rest of the advertising we'll be seeing in a few weeks because the ads, made by amateurs, did not tickle my funny bone.

Here's a link to the site.  2012 Dorito's Crash the Super Bowl Site

For what it's worth, my favorite was the Baby Slingshot.

In addiition to watching the five finalists you can also watch many of the other entrants in this year's contest.
