Rumbo - Political Warfare, Guns ablaze

This new ad called 'Rombo' blasting Presidential candidate Mitt Romney's style of full frontal attacks, is going to live on for a long time in the minds of TV ad watchers.  It's great, depicting Mitt's blast them all style as he machine guns competitors in a deserted office area, then ducks behind metal poles for cover until he reappears blasting again .  Whether or not you agree with what is now called the Romney style of attack.  It's clever and it grabs your attention.  You'll probably be seeing more of this one later in the campaign cycle.

Chipolte Hits a Home Run: the Scientist

Telling a story as complicated as the Chipolte story is NOT easy. Nobody said it was easy.  Add the fact that you have never created an ad before to that mission and you opt to take your first swing with a TWO minute commercial during the Grammys.  Well, you got some cahones.  And it took them to go with Chipoltes strikingly different ad run during last night's Grammy awards.  Not only is the ad good, but it's fantastic!!!  Two thumbs up.   Well done.  Then ad the Coldplay track sung by Willie Nelson sets the perfect tone.  Chipolte, you done great.  Back to Basics Baby!  The spot is called the Scientist.  It's the qunitessential argument about going back to basics with our food and putting an end to all the highly processed foods in our diet.  There's a movie created by Kristin Canty called Farmageddon (I worked on the project) with that same message and it's no accident that one of the main farmers we interviewed in the documentary, Joel Salatin, sells his pork to Chipolte.

Clever Animation Campaign - Take the Bus

Here are three commercials that makeup a brilliant campaign created by Duval Guillaume in Belgium.  The production company is Creative Conspiracy.  The first commercial, Penguins, was created some time ago, in 2009.

The second one, Ants, is right in step with the others.

Finally, here's the third, Crabs.

Wonderful music and great Sound Effects makes these funny spots all the more powerful.

School College Marketing Video Yale

The Glee knockoff video created for Yale Admissions was much talked about in admissions circles several years ago, but when it comes to Admissions videos, I don't think their suspended reality approach works. While the video is slightly amusing it's going to turn off as many potential applicants as it will interest.  From a strategic POV I think it was a mistake.  The singing and dancing is cute and timely (modeled after a popular TV show), and it arguably may have helped Yale standout and perhaps break away from some misconceptions about the toney Ivy league school, but it seems more like an arts school than a classic Ivy with a broad liberal arts offering.  Perhaps it's just a personal taste thing, as I am not a musical, song and dance kind of guy.  Anyway, I like the old what you see is what you get approach.  Call me old fashioned, but I guess I am just a journalist at heart.
